The Federal Government has called on youths to embrace entrepreneurship development and digital skills to build capacity for employment and productivity.
Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, made the call on Thursday at the 2022 ICT week of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo.
The minister, who stressed the importance of digital literacy in contemporary society, commended the university for taking the lead in championing digital literacy and empowering students with digital skills.
This, he said would help to enthrone good governance and a thriving economy amidst global competitiveness.
Adenayo expressed the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government to the provision of quality education through digital literacy to the teeming unemployed youth.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the week is “Emerging Smart Campus Hub: Deployment of Disruptive Technology Platform”.
In his presentation, Mr. Emmanuel Ochie, Managing Consultant, Certified Systems Limited, explained that 60 percent of the jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are in computer science.

Ochie noted, however, that only two percent of STEM graduates filled the vacancies.
“This represents a significant future opportunity for students in Computer Science and those with advanced technical skills.”
Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, Vice-Chancellor of the university, recounted the efforts the institution had put in place to ensure students of the institution are digital literate upon graduation.
Ezemonye stated that no student of the university would graduate without acquiring a particular set of skills in entrepreneurship and digital literacy.
He said the university would continue to collaborate with industry players and experts to actualize its goal of becoming a full-fledged Smart Campus within the West African sub-region.
