Following the flood disaster that submerged several houses and cars in trademore estate on Friday, the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria has called on the relevant authorities to immediately work out Proper infrastructure and channels of drainage in order to prevent further occurrence.
Reacting to the ugly situation, the president of REDAN, Alhaji Aliyu Oroji Wamakko said from the global warming they have indicated to the general public that there is going to be a lot of rain fall in this year and most likely the west Africa sub region will witness a lot of flood.
According to him, "The last time we visited trademore estate alongside officials of the FCDA some of the houses were mark for demolition that were suspected to be on the waterway and we also advised that there should be a proper infrastructure and channels of drainage and should also be check since Julius Berger created Shehu musa Yar' Dua way the flooding within the Lugbe axis continue to be a problem most especially Lugbe , Lokogoma and the rest of those communities.
"I believe there is something to be done by FCT and I encourage the government to look into the plight of this flood victims because it is not their making but a natural disasters, it is expected anywhere, I will expect government will look into it and assist the flood victims.
"We felt very sorry for this and we are sure government have the people at heart and they will be able to do something in assisting this flood victims."
Several other residents of the Territory were also full of lamentations as flood Submerged their houses and Vehicles, after the heavy downpour on Friday in Abuja.
Some of the residents were seen swimming out of their various Estates while looking for a safety zone. Some houses were also submerged as the flood took over some of the community within the FCT.
The President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Alhaji Aliyu Oroji Wamakko further pleaded with the Management of Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) to as a matter of urgency address future flooding risks.
He said it is crucial to implement comprehensive mitigation measures, including improved drainage infrastructure, sustainable urban planning, and public awareness campaigns.
"By adopting these measures, FCT can enhance its resilience to floods and protect the well-being and livelihoods of its residents."
