In a historic move, Bassirou Diomaye Faye was sworn in as Senegal’s fifth president and Africa’s youngest elected president at a ceremony attended by foreign leaders in the capital Dakar on Tuesday.
Faye, 44 has officially become Africa’s youngest president after sweeping to a first-round victory on a pledge of radical reform, ten days after he was released from prison.
According to him: “Before God and the Senegalese nation, I swear to faithfully fulfil the office of President of the Republic of Senegal,” he swore.
He pledged reforms, including national reconciliation, easing a cost-of-living crisis and fighting corruption.
