FEC approves N17.4 billion for NIMASA’s new headquarters

The Federal Executive Council FEC has approved the sum of N17.4 Billion for the purchase of a property in Lagos, to serve as the new headquarters of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

This was made known by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi while briefing State House Correspondents on decisions reached at this week’s meeting of the council, chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, “The council approved the purchase of Kanti Towers, located at 35, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos , for the new headquarters of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

“The purchase is in the sum of N17, 471, 005, 130. 54 inclusive of 7.5 percent tax.”

He added that the new office complex is a 16 story building consisting of the latest technology fittings and a helipad and a parking bay for over 100 cars.

About NIMASA

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is the apex regulatory and promotional maritime agency.

The Agency was established primarily for the administration of Maritime Safety Seafarers Standards and Security, Maritime Labour, Shipping Regulation, Promotion of Commercial Shipping and Cobatage activities, Pollution Prevention and Control in the marine environment. 

NIMASA also implements domesticated International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions.
