Edo state deputy governor, Hon Phillip Shuaibu has assured Nigerians that peace will soon return to the nation;’s football as concerted and genuine efforts are been made to reconcile all the warring parties that have fragmented and polarized the country’s football.


Shuaibu disclosed this after a meeting at the headquarters of the Nigerian Football Federation(NFF) where he met with NFF president, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau and the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) several stakeholders towards finding a lasting solution to the problems bedeviling the nation’s football.

The meeting had in attendance the representatives of the PFAN led by Harrison Ijala, Austin Popo, former NPL chairman chief Rumson Baribote, ex-international Dahiru Saidi, Delta state FA chairman, Edema Fuludu and the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.

Our correspondent gathered that the meeting resolved to set up a 3-man committee to be headed by Hon. Phillip Shuaibu, Dr.Felix Owolabi, and Emmanuel Okala as members to work out modalities to resolve the logjam threatening the soul of Nigerian football as early as possible.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, Hon. Shuaibu insisted that Gusau’s emergence as the NFF President within the shortest time has fostered tranquility, as he keeps making efforts in ensuring his subjects are carried along on a tide of enthusiasm, with the hope of uniting the football family, for the good of the country.

He also revealed that the interest of Gusau is for Nigeria to reclaim her position as the giant of Africa, and to achieve this, all hands must be on deck to work for the purpose of attaining new lofty heights and glory.

“We have a president that is carrying everyone along to make sure that the football family is united for the good of the country because what we want is for Nigeria to remain a giant”

“Nigeria must be number one in all ramifications including winning trophies and that is the interest of the president”

He also called on all stakeholders to support the collective vision of Gusau to make sure that Nigeria remains a household name as far as football is concerned.

“We must support his vision, his collective vision to make sure that Nigeria remains a household name as far as football is concerned, knowing fully well that Nigeria is the leader as far as the African nation is concerned”

Speaking earlier, PFAN representatives Harrison Ijala collaborated on what Shuaibu said “ it’s good that we are talking. We’re working on modalities to resolve the crisis and very soon it will be a thing of the past he said.
