Sheikh Yakubu Musa, a renowned Islamic Scholar in Katsina State, on Thursday called on the state government to establish a Hisbah board in the state.
Hisbah is an Islamic doctrine on upholding community morals, based on the Qur’anic injunction, to enjoin good and forbid wrong.
It is otherwise known as the enforcement arm of the Sharia law.
Sheikh Musa, who is the state Chairman, of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), made the call during the launching of the State’s Action Plan (SAP) on women, peace and security in Katsina.
According to him, if such a board is established in the state, it will contribute towards controlling the wrongdoings in society, especially among women, girls and the youth.
He commended Gov. Aminu Masari for all his efforts towards ensuring that any issue related to the good moral training of the children brought before him, was given prompt attention.
Sheikh Musa said, “I am calling on the governor to assist us by ensuring that the Hisbah comes on board because they know the society and also can enter places that other security personnel can not.
“Those youths that are into drug abuse and other social vices are from the society, they are all known, therefore, Hisbah will assist in reducing the menace.
“Those that are into the drug businesses can be fished out from society. I know about a bill before the assembly on the establishment of the board, but at the moment I don’t know where it’s hanging.”
He appealed to the governor’s wife, Hajia Hadiza Masari, to ensure that before the end of their tenure, the agitation for the establishment of the board became reality.
The scholar explained that the introduction of the SAP was a good initiative, but advised that such a plan should be properly used in such a way it could go with the teaching of Islam.
The Sheikh noted that women were the backbone of any society because of their importance, giving examples from the holy Qur’an where there is a whole chapter (Suratul Nisa’i) that talks about them.
He explained that the training of children was the major responsibility of the mother, saying that any child without good moral training, must have gotten the wrong training from the mother.
According to Sheikh Musa, who is also one of the founding leaders of JIBWIS, women in society must be given much respect and treated well.
