A Dei-Dei Area Court, Abuja, on Monday, ordered the remand of an estate agent, Emmanuel Obi, in a correctional center for allegedly defrauding his client of N130,000.

The police charged Obi, who resides in Dutse Baupma, Abuja, with joint act and cheating.

The Judge, Saminu Suleiman, ordered that Obi be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Suleja until March 14, after he had pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Nnaman Chima of Dutse Makaranta, Abuja, had reported the matter at Dutse Police Station on Jan. 30.

Ogada said that on Jan. 9, the defendant and one Robert Obi, now at large, collected N130,000 from the complainant and rented a self-contained apartment for him at Dutse Baupma.

He stated that on Jan. 17, when the complainant went to the house, he discovered that the defendant had given the room to another person and refused to refund his money.

According to the prosecutor, the offenses contravene the provisions of Sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code
