The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment have condoled the people and governments of Turkey and Syria over the earthquake which led to the death of over 12, 000 people.

This is contained in a condolence message on Friday in Abuja by the minister, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo.

While expressing sadness over the incident, the minister said that the earthquake brought untold hardship to the people of Turkey and Syria.

“On behalf of myself, my family, and the entire staff of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, I hereby express my condolence to the governments and people of Turkey and Syria on the unfortunate incident.

“The earthquake has led to the death of many and rendered people homeless.

“I share in the grief of the people of these countries, particularly the families who have lost their loved ones in the natural disaster, and pray that the Almighty God will comfort them in their moment of grief,’’ Adebayo said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in Southern Turkey near the northern border of Syria on Monday.

The quake was followed approximately nine hours later by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake located around 59 miles to the southwest.

As of Wednesday, at least 317 aftershocks had been reported.
