The advocacy is in a statement issued by the group’s Executive Director, Ebruke Esike in Lafia on Thursday.
Esike stated that the organisation stands in solidarity with women and girls in Nigeria and around the world.
He added that the organisation celebrates the advancement made by women and girls in the field of transformative technology and digital education and other sectors.
He explained that there was significant gap between men and women in ICT participation, a major challenge to Nigeria’s development efforts, as it limits the country’s potential to harness the benefits.
The director called on government at all levels to enhance the capacity and knowledge of women, especially rural and urban dwellers on ICT education as a development pathway to women growth, resilience and sustainable income.
He said “we believe that by empowering women and girls with ICT knowledge, we are closing the digital gender gap which has continued to widen economic and social inequalities.”
This year’s theme of the IWD — “DigitALl Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality,” highlights the role of innovation technology in promoting gender equality.
