The Rotary Club of Federal Housing Authority, (FHA) Lugbe Estate, on Thursday, donated sanitary materials and a borehole to the Government Secondary School, Lugbe FHA.

Mr. Babajide Onafowora, immediate past president of Rotary FHA, presenting the items said that the project was carried out in fulfillment of Rotary International’s focus areas which are Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, and Earth Preservation.

Onafowora said the donation was part of its mandate to eliminate diseases and promote access to clean water and hygiene among school children.

According to him, the objective of the project is to provide a potable water supply to schools to improve a clean school environment.

“This will enable school pupils at the secondary school level to have the basic knowledge of sanitation.

“When the environment is dirty, the students are prone to diseases such as cholera, malaria among others so we seek to prevent this from happening.

“This month's theme has to do with water and sanitation, and this necessitates that we fulfill this mandate.

“We also wish to discourage pupils from littering the environment with dirty and returning home to fetch water so as to increase pupils’ focus on learning, “he said

Onafowora also added that Rotary promotes what the government was doing by filling the gaps in terms of health care services, and education among others as part of its contribution to Nigeria and humanity.

ROTN Ayeni Adetundun, incoming President of the Club also sensitizes the students on the importance of personal hygiene.

“We as Rotary, see it as a duty to enlighten students on how to properly take care of their body in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“It is important for students and everyone to drink water early in the morning to flush out toxins, bathe regularly, brush their teeth twice daily and wash their clothes to avoid diseases,” Adetundun said.

Mrs. Lucy Abang-Ojie, a teacher in the school and coordinator of the Rotary Interact club on behalf of the school administration, commended the Rotary club for contributing to humanity.

She promised to maintain and make good use of the sanitation materials.

The items donated include a well-equipped borehole, sanitary pads, and cleaning materials among others.
