Prof. Florence Obi, Vice Chancellor, of the University of Calabar, has sought the support and collaboration of the Nigerian Army in tackling issues of insecurity on the institution’s campus.
Obi sought support and collaboration on Friday in Calabar, when she paid a courtesy visit to Brig.-Gen. Everest Okoro, the Commander, 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Calabar,
She lauded the efforts of the Brigade at securing the institution, which she said has engendered peace and calmness within and around the university.
The vice chancellor urged the brigade commander and his team not to relent in their valued support of the institution.
Obi particularly commended the army’ “Operation Akpaku”, for the prompt response to distress calls and peculiar interest in the institution.

She also appreciated the goodwill and hospitality being shown to the university’s Pro-Chancellor, retired Gen. Martin Luther Agwai, whenever he comes for an official engagement.
In his response, Okoro said that the visit would strengthen the existing bond between the brigade and the institution.
He said that the brigade was aware of the security challenges in the country in general as well as the university.
The Brigade Commander added that the Army was re-strategizing to deal with threats around the waterways and other areas in the Brigade’s areas of responsibility.
He assured the VC of more security in the university and called for cooperation in the areas of information and intelligence sharing.
