The Coordinator of CPAN, Mr. Samson Auta, made the call on Thursday in Kano at the continuous Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) structure engagement.

It was organized by Interfaith Mediation Centre, under the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP) programme.

The participants were drawn from CIPP communities across Fagge , Nassarawa, Dala and Kano Municipal local government areas.

According to him, the objective of the forum is to empower community members and groups to mitigate and manage conflict, improve linkages between conflict mitigation and developments initiatives.

He said the engagement was organised for Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council (CMMRC) and Community Peace Observers (CPOs) to enlighten them on peace mediation and how to sustain the programme after its end circle of five years.

“We conduct this kind of engagement in six states of Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Plateau, Benue and Kogi.

“The good thing about this meeting is, it will help us to get quarterly feedback and reports on happenings within their communities, also success stories,” he explained.

Auta explained that the participants would be able to sustain the initiative as they were able to facilitate the programme by themselves as part of the sustainability programme.

The coordinator noted that the activities of CPO’s and CMMRC has led to successful prevention of violence and promoted peaceful coexistence as well doused down tensions.

Also, a facilitator, Hajiya Ramatu Adamu, advised them to avail them to come up with the necessary actions as group to prevent the escalation of any form of violence within their communities and to also take necessary initiatives.

She urged them to co-exist and understand one another for the growth and development of Nigeria.

Some of the participants who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that the engagement had increased their capacity.

They promised to step down training for others, to promote peaceful coexistence in the state and the country at large.
