Legislatures in the Edo State House of Assembly believe that, if nothing is done to tame the recent rampaging killings in the state, it could lead to anarchy in a tolerant society.

The move follows a call on Security Operatives to buckle up to end the dastardly act that has perverted the peace and now claimed more lives in the state. 

 

Multiple reports have claimed that over 10 persons have died since the renewed cult-related Killings in the State, a development the lawmakers have imprinted as wanton.

 

However, in a motion sponsored by the Member Representing Oredo East Constituency, Hon Uyi Frank Omosigho as a matter of public urgency received massive support from other members at the Plenary, just as they noted that with the heightened cult-related killings in the state, it is expedient that decisive actions be taken by the State Government and the Security Operatives.

 

In his application to support the sponsored motion, the member representing Ovia North East Constituency one who also doubles as the Majority Leader, Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian called for the amendment of the sponsored motion to cover the state and not limited to the Amagba Community.

 

While warning of the imminent downslide in economic activities occasioned by the reckless killings in the state, Hon. Aiguobarueghian appealed to various security outlets saddled with the responsibility of getting credible and intelligent information on securing life and property to double up in curtailing the spilling effects in different parts of the state.

 

His application was, however, seconded by the member representing Esan South East Constituency, Hon Sunny Ojiezele as members widely absorbed it.

 

Adding his voice, the Honorable member representing Etsako East at the Edo State House of Assembly, Kingsley Ugabi, said he is pained that cultism has now taken over Secondary schools.

 

The Speaker, Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku after carefully listening to the various arguments Condemn the Killings urging security operatives to tighten their laces to halt the ugly incidents.  

 

Plenary at the 8th Edo State House of Assembly will resume on July 12, 2023.
