Flood kills 6 pupils in Benin City

... Tackle Issue of Flooding with Urgency...... Lawmakers tells Obaseki 

 
No fewer than six pupils were killed last week Thursday in Benin city following the heavy downpour that lasted for hours.
The inhabitants of Ebvotubu were thrown into confusion as parents and guardians beseized the school searching for their wards , though elders of the community in self help have relocated the school from the enrosion prone area.
 
Meanwhile, Hon Natasha Osawaru, the lawmaker, representing Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly revealed that six pupils of Evbotubu Primary School have lost their lives to flood that ravaged the school.
 
 Natasha made the revelation followed the motion of urgent public importance at the house's plenary session in Benin City.
 
The People's Democratic Party (PDP), lawmaker, decried the plight of the inhabitants of Evbotubu community as a result of the incessant floodings which have spanned for more than a decade.
 
The youngest legislator in the house, who noted that floodings which have ravaged Evbotubu Primary School had so far claimed the lives of six pupils of the school, however, disclosed that the school had been relocated due to its deplorable condition occasioned by the floodings.
 
Natasha while urging her co-legisaltors to support her motion , opined that the massive stagnant water around the affected school and other areas of the community could be channeled to the state Water Storm to ease movements.
 
The other lawmakers who sacrificed political affiliation for good governance unanimously supported the motion, describing it as timely.
 
The lawmakers, who noted that ecological problems is a state-wide problem, called on relevant agencies to swiftly tackle the issue of floodings affecting Evbotubu community and other communities.
 
In its resolution, the House unanimously called on the state government to as a matter of urgency curb the ecological problems affecting the community which has claimed some lives.
 
In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Hon Blessing Agbebaku sympathized with the people in the area especially families of the pupils of Evbotubu Primary School who lost their lives to the flooding.
 
Agbebaku added that the flooding in the area has become a recurrent situation whenever it rains turning the area to a death trap.
