Land Grabbing: Edo State Committee Tasks Enogie on Peace

...Enogie made me exhume remains of my father .... petition tells committee

Leaders of Communities across Edo State have been reminded of their role as custodians of culture, peace and progress in their communities and tasked on leaving legacies that their children will be proud of in the near future.

This admonition was particularly directed at HRH Osadebamwen Aghaghowa, Enogie of Oghede in Upper Ekenwan Road during the hearing of a matter involving him and one Charles Erhiamiator, Petitioner, in a case of encroachment and illegal sale of land.

The Petitioner had accused the Enogie of selling the land in which he had buried his father, and when he brought the first case before the Committee, it was resolved that the Enogie should give the Petitioner a new piece of land.

He further stated that the Enogie gave him a new piece of land and he went ahead to exhume the remains of his father from the disputed land and went to inter him in the new location, hoping that the matter had been amicably resolved.

The Petitioner further stated that he was shocked to come back to find that the Enogie had also given to his younger brother the said land where he had buried his father for the second time his younger and added that he had gone to ask him to stop work on the site but was informed that the Enogie's brother had gone into the land at midnight to erect a structure there, hence the second petition before the Committee.

In his defense, the Enogie accepted that he had given the second land to his brother, but said it was in error. He assured that he had proposed a new location for the Petitioner.

Speaking on the matter, the Committee described the action of the Enogie as, "Terrible and reprehensible," and directed the Enogie to, as a matter of urgency, relocate his brother to another land and equally directed the Petitioner, Charles Erhiamiator, to go ahead and survey the land and that if he met any resistance he should report back to his InvestigativePolice Officer(IPO).

Hon. Justice Alero Edodo-Eruaga (Rtd), Chairman of Committee also directed the Investigative Police Team to ensure that the younger brother of the Enogie is invited to appear before the Committee on or before the next adjourned date, which is September 20.

Fresh statements are being made by the Enogie in respect of the case as at the time of filing this report.
