FG, Edo State Government Explore Joint Venture to Expedite Benin/Abraka Road Completion

The Ministry of Niger Delta Development is currently exploring a joint venture between the Edo State Government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to expedite the completion of the ongoing Benin/Abraka road.

The Minister, Hon. Engr. Abubakar Momoh, dropped this hint during his inspection of the road, commencing from the Upper Sakponba Road junction as part of its Phase 1 (25km) project undertaken by the Niger Delta Development Commission.

The Minister informed journalists that his objective was to assess the progress of the project, identify challenges, and explore opportunities for collaboration with the state government through a joint venture.

The minister during his working visit to the state also had a private meeting with The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, CFR after inspecting the One-Stop Youth Centre in Benin City, Oredo Local Government Area, one of the Ministry’s project.

The Edo State Commissioner for Roads & Bridges, Mr. Ethan Osaze Uzamere, accompanied the Minister on the inspection also provided valuable insights into the joint venture between the state government and the NDDC.

According to the Commissioner, “It is crucial for the state to partner with the federal government on this road due to the economic advantages along the Benin Abraka axis and to alleviate pressure on the Benin Sapele road.”

He explained that the state is embarking on a 40.5 km project from Evbiakagba Community to Ugo Junction, which will be divided into three phases. Phase 1 covers the stretch from Evbiakaba Community to Okogbo (15.5km), Phase 2 from Okogbo Community to Idunmwomina Community (7.5km), and Phase 3 from Idunmwunowina Community to Ugo Junction (17.5km).

The Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, are also part of the minister’s delegation.

The Minister’s entourage includes Dr. Samson Osagie, Hon. Godwin Eshieshi, Dr. Chris Oghenechiove, and several other officials.
