Police advocacy group lauds school for engaging children, youths in taekwondo

The Police Campaign Against Cultism And Other Vices (POCACOV), an advocacy group, has lauded Enugu Taekwondo School for engaging and training children in the sport during the long school vocation.

The National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, gave the commendation in Enugu on Monday while speaking to the media on the gains of the month-long training.

The month-long taekwondo training, which took place between Aug. 11 and Sept. 14, was for boys and girls between the ages of four and I6.

It was held at the indoor sports hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Amaraizu, who also is an Olympic sports administrator, lauded the efforts of Taekwondo Grandmaster, Dennis Ani, and his crew, for impacting on the children and youths the essence of taekwondo as a combat sport and self-defence mechanism.

He appreciated the state taekwondo board for the continual support and willingness to work with POCACOV in order to make our children and youths better, for a functional community.

According to him, taekwondo as a sport and self-defence, will surely strengthen the children and youths’ resilience to positive coping skills.

“Imbibing taekwondo tenets and values will make it difficult to yield to pressures of recruitment into membership of Organized Criminal Groups (OCGs), unlawful societies and other forms of vices.

“The training will give them speed, endurance and strength to sustain their coping skills and they are good to go,” he said.

Amaraizu said that POCACOV would be part of the upcoming Enugu State Taekwondo Poomsae Championship for children and youths around November.

He noted that the championship would help in the children and youths grading and promotion to various taekwondo belt statutes.
