Hunger protests Day 3: Police arrest protesters at Abuja venue

The Police have arrested some of the protesters who converged on the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Saturday morning in continuation of the nationwide protest against bad governance.

The police picked them up outside the stadium, which was approved for the protest.

Protesters had began converging at the stadium at almost 10am. The late arrival of protesters had initially been a cause of concern and it was uncertain whether or not there would be any activity.

The gradual trickle slowly began to swell into a crowd and it was at that point the police fired some gunshots and teargas to disperse them.

They proceeded to arrest some of the protesters and a number of journalists. The reason for the approach is yet unclear especially as the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had earlier on Thursday, cautioned the protesters to confine their activities to the same stadium where they have now been arrested from.
