In a steadfast effort to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensure the safety of its citizens, the Nigerian Armed Forces have made remarkable gains across the country in the past week, achieving significant victories against terrorism, oil theft, and other security threats.
The Armed Forces intensified operations against terrorist enclaves, striking with precision based on intelligence. Notable successes include the elimination of notorious terrorist commander Munzur Ya Audu in the North-East (NE) region.
Speaking during the Weekly Report of Ongoing Military Operations by The Armed Forces of Nigeria, Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations disclosed that Troops dismantled key logistics bases, neutralizing 115 terrorists and arresting 238 individuals connected to terror activities. These efforts effectively weakened the operational and logistical capacities of Boko Haram (BH) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
He added that a total of 138 hostages were rescued from captivity during coordinated operations. Troops also seized a significant arsenal, including 145 weapons, 3,825 rounds of ammunition, and explosive devices.
In the South-South (SS) region, security forces thwarted oil theft worth over ₦921 million, dismantling 78 illegal refining sites and recovering 872,070 liters of stolen crude oil.
In the NE, Major General Buba, said Operation HADIN KAI reported the surrender of 22 BH/ISWAP terrorists, including women and children, and neutralized 61 fighters in a series of clashes. Significant recoveries were made, including 32 AK-47 rifles and 983 rounds of ammunition.
Notably, the troops repelled a surprise attack in Yobe State, eliminating 21 terrorists and securing critical intelligence.
Operation SAFE HAVEN continued its success in Plateau and Kaduna States, where troops neutralized seven violent extremists, rescued 40 hostages, and arrested 27 suspects, including a notorious gunrunner. Recovered items included three AK-47 rifles, 151 rounds of ammunition, and four motorcycles.
According to Major General Buba, Troops in Taraba and Benue States under Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralized 11 terrorists and arrested 21 extremists, including a Cameroonian linked to the Ambazonia separatists.
Operations also led to the recovery of six AK-47 rifles, 152 rounds of ammunition, and the rescue of eight hostages.
In the North-West, Operation HADARIN DAJI troops arrested 24 terrorists, including kingpin Lawali Sani (alias Dantsoho), and neutralized several others during raids in Sokoto, Katsina, and Kebbi States. Recovered items included seven rifles, 124 rounds of ammunition, and ₦5.1 million in cash.
The Nigerian Air Force supported ground troops with targeted airstrikes on terrorist hideouts, further disrupting their activities.
The Armed Forces remain mission-focused, acknowledging the challenges and sacrifices involved in safeguarding Nigeria.
"Our troops are committed to ensuring every Nigerian lives in a safer and more secure environment. Despite the difficulties, we are unwavering in our resolve to defeat all threats to our nation," a spokesperson stated.
