Use social media to promote national unity – NYSC DG tells corps members
NYSC Director-General Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim.

Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General (DG), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged corps members to be entreprising and use the social media only for the promotion of national unity and other positive purposes.

The Director General made the call through the Coordinator of NYSC in Cross River, Mr Zemoh Andrew, on Tuesday during the swearing in ceremony for the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC camp in Obubra local government area of Cross River.

“You are aware that social media can bring down a nation as a result of risk of inaccurate reporting and loss of privacy, and that can be embarrassing and can harm any organisation’s corporate image.

“I urge you to use the social media to promote national unity, rather then using it to spread rumour and hatred,” he said.

The Director General commended the corps members for their orderly conduct, while encouraging them to continue to demonstrate the high level of discipline and enthusiasm through out the camping period.

On the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, the DG said that white collar jobs are hard to come by, hence the empowerment of corps members for self employment and wealth creation has been a major area of focus for the scheme since 2012.

“I therefore encourage you to stay off the long queue of job seekers by choosing from the various skills sets,” he said.

The Director General called on the corps members to adhere strictly to the protocol of COVID 19 while on camp.

The high point of the event was the administration of oath of allegiance on the corps members performed by the Chief Judge of Obubra High Court, Justice Emmanuel Ubua, on behalf of the Chief Judge of Cross River, Justice Akoh lkpeme.
