UNIABUJA staff regain freedom as police arrest kidnappers

The Nigerian Police Force have rescued the victims kidnapped at the staff quarters of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) on Tuesday.

According to family members, a N300m ransom was earlier demanded for the abducted persons numbering six, including two professors.

But in a new development on Friday morning, Dr Abubakar Kari, an official of the school, announced that the victims had been rescued with no ransom paid.

“Our prayers have been accepted. Please join me in thanking God Almighty. I will provide you more details later, just to let you know that our UofA family is a happier family today with the resolution of this callous and wicked kidnap of our people,” the post read.

“As I write, we are on the road to fetch them and get them immediate medical attention to ensure they are sound and strong!

“Our brilliant and indefatigable Safety Unit and security outfit must be commended. They are deserving of superior award!

“We are grateful to the team along with the military, the police, the DSS and all who laboured to make this happen. Our traditional rulers in FCT stood by us and prayed for us and we are grateful to all of them,” the school also confirmed this in a Facebook post.

Spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, DSP Josephine Adeh also confirmed the release of the victims and said some arrests were made.

“The FCT Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that all abducted victims of the University of Abuja were rescued and reunited with their families through a joint operation with other security agencies. More details coming soon,” she said.
