The Nigerian Conservation Foundation(NCF) alongside Total Energies on Tuesday partnered to plant trees and clean up schools in Lagos State.

The initiative, according to the Head of Environmental Education Unit, NCF, Mrs Abidemi Balogun, is aimed at achieving a safer ecosystem while also encouraging tree planting across schools in the state.

The tree planting and clean up exercise was done at the Opebi Grammar School in Ikeja.

Speaking with journalists after the exercise, Balogun said that the initiative was also aimed at ensuring that students picked up the habit of planting trees and also cleaning their environments.

“We all know the benefits of tree planting in our environment, this is why we are here in the school and community as a whole to encourage people to plant trees,” she said.

She said that NCF has a goal to plant as many trees as possible, adding that the foundation had nine schools across different locations which are Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan among others.

The representative from Total Energies, Mrs Chinwe Ifechigha, who is the Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, said that the initiative was aimed at making an impact on the environment.

She said that the idea was to impact the community directly and also teach school students on the need to protect the environment and plant trees.

She also added that Total Energies was implementing the initiative in 10 locations across Nigeria.

The Principal of the School, Mrs Omolara Awosan, said that she was glad the initiative was brought down to the school and assured that the students would nurture and grow the trees.

She added that the trees would be beneficial to everyone in the premises as it was a fruit tree, adding that it was a kind gesture the school would not forget.
