Armed robbers ambush bullion van in Delta, escape with cash

A bullion van belonging to a yet-to-be-disclosed commercial bank has been robbed by gunmen in Delta State.

It was gathered that the robbers ambushed the van along Otor-Owhe on the Ughelli-Asaba dual carriageway in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

While possible casualties during the attack are yet to be confirmed, it is understood from a report monitored by our correspondent on Punch that the robbers shot sporadically at the bullion van, breaking the windscreen of the vehicle conveying cash.

The exact amount lost during the attack could also not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

Efforts made as at press time to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe for comments were not successful.

Meanwhile, a Bell 429 helicopter which belongs to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has crashed at the Bauchi airport.

The crash was confirmed on Thursday in a statement by the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) which revealed that the crash happened around 7.30pm on the evening of Wednesday, 26th January.

The aircraft with registration marks 5N-MDA was said to have departed Abuja for Bauchi with six persons on board.

While no deaths were however recorded in the crash, some of those onboard sustained different degrees of injuries.

The AIB said the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained but urged members of the public with information including videos or pictures that can aid their investigation to come forth with such.
