Police, Army rescue 20 people, neutralise scores of bandits in Niger

A combined team of the military and the police have killed scores of bandits/terrorists and set free 20 abducted villagers in Magama local government area of Niger state.

Announcing the development on Sunday, in Minna, the state capital, Wasiu Abiodun, spokesman of the command said the terrorists were neutralized while attacking some villages around Nasko, the headquarters of the council in the evening on Saturday.

He said that a combined team of Police, Army and vigilantes engaged the bandits in a gun battle during which large herds of cattle were also recovered and twenty (20) abducted victims regained freedom.

Abiodun said they were engaged in a gun battle along the Ibeto cattle route and it lasted for about two hours as the terrorists were trying to escape with the cattle rustled.

On the number of the terrorists killed, he said “scores of bandits were neutralised and the large rustled cattle were recovered while about 20 abducted victims regained freedom.”.

He added that 1 AK-47 magazine with 30 rounds of live ammunition, seven handsets and one Honda motorcycle was recovered from the neutralised bandits.

Abiodun also said the police raided a bandits’ hideout at Anaba hilltop area of Magama on Sunday, where one Ak-47 rifle and 13 rounds of live ammunition, hidden between rocks were recovered.

The spokesman solicited the cooperation of residents in ridding the state of banditry and other crimes.
