The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Monday staged a peaceful protest in support of the one-month nationwide warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, and other institutions in the state on Monday blocked Minna city gate in solidarity with their lecturers.

The students, in their large numbers matched around the city gate on the Minna-Suleja road chanting solidarity songs and holding placards.

Some of the placards read: “Education is our right”, “Federal Government settle ASUU” and “Enough is Enough”.

President, Students Union, IBBU, Jibrin Mohammed and his FUT, Minna counterpart, Shuiabu Yusuf told newsmen that the students would continue the protest until the government met ASUU’s demands.

They said that the protest was a warning to the Federal Government and called on the authorities to meet the demands of the lecturers to make learning convenient for them.

The student said they supported ASUU because its demands of making learning conducive were justified.

The university lecturers are on strike to press home their demand for improved welfare and better teaching and learning environment in the nation’s universities.
