The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River has reacted to the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which sacked 20 state legislators, saying there is no cause for alarm.
The call for calm is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Calabar by the Publicity Secretary of APC in the state, Mr. Erasmus Ekpang.
The party assured its members that the appellate court would do justice to the matter as it headed to the Appeal Court immediately.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday declared the seats of 20 Cross River lawmakers vacant over their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC.
Justice Taiwo Taiwo in the judgement dismissed the argument of the defence that the PDP, the plaintiff, had no locus standi to institute the case.
“The Federal High Court judgment that was given against our lawmakers is nothing to worry about.
“We trust that the appellate court will do justice as we file our appeal,” the statement said.
