Labour commends FCTA leadership for prioritizing staff salary

The Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC), the umbrella body of various Labour Unions under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has lauded the leadership of the FCT Administration for paying the monthly salary of over 32,000.00 of its workforce as at when due as well as payment of staff promotion arrears for 2016,2017 and 2018.

The Chairman of JUAC, Comrade Mutilukuro Oluwakorede who gave the commendation at the flag-off of the 2021 FCTA/FCDA Joint Unions Action Committee Week in Abuja, also commended the FCT Administration for payment of some staff medical allowance, employment of bereaved staff spouses, approval of allocation of a plot of lands to Directors, increment of Agricultural Secretariat from 3 Departments to 9, upgrading of Department of Economic Planning, Research and Statistics to a full-fledge Secretariat, the appointment of Director of FCTATreasury, amongst others.

Mr Oluwakorede assured both FCTA and FCDA staff that the Union would continue to engage the Administration on issues that bother their welfare.

The Director of Human Resources, FCTA, Dr Muhammed Bashir disclosed that from 2019 to 2021, the Administration promoted a total number of 18,929 staff to various cadres in the Civil Service. He also added that in 2021 alone, the Administration trained over 3,000 staff in various areas.

Earlier, the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, represented by the Permanent Secretary, FCTA, Mr. Olusade Adesola reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Administration to the welfare of the staff through prompt payment of salary, regular promotion, periodic training, payment of allowances, amongst others.

He also disclosed that recently, the Administration released #2.9billion promotion arrears spanning over 3 years to staff, including those that have retired.

The Minister also revealed that the annual staff award and recognition programme, instituted by the Administration to reward hardworking and dedicated staff will be held early next month.

Malam Bello who used the opportunity to call on all staff to rededicate themselves to their duties reiterated that the Administration would continue to provide the best possible work environment for all staff.
