A businessman, Usman Oduma, was on Monda docked in a Kado Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly buying stolen 400 litres of diesel.
The defendant, who resides at Jahi 2, Abuja, is standing trial on a count charge of receiving stolen property.
The Prosecution Counsel, Ms, Helen Ochai told the court that Insp Abubakar Haruna, attached to the Mabushi Police Station, arrested the defendant while on patrol with his team on Aug. 9.
She further alleged that the team discovered 400 litres of diesel inside the defendant’s Golf wagon car with registration number: EZ877ABJ.
Ochai told the court that when questioned, the defendant allegedly admitted to have bought the diesel at the rate of N280 per litre from one Emeka Nworah, who had stolen the said petroleum product from his organisation.
She said that the offence contravened the provision of section 317 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Malam Mohammed Wakili admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with a reliable surety in like sum.
He ruled that the surety must provide a BVN printout, two recent passport photographs and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court’s registrar.
Wakili adjourned the matter until Oct.18, for a hearing.
