The joint leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Unions Congress (TUC) in Enugu State, have pledged to work closely with the PDP governorship candidate in Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah.

The organised labour disclosed this on Monday during their courtesy visit to Mbah in Enugu where they pledged to work with him when he assumes office as governor.

They stressed that Mbah’s leadership antecedent and track records had already won the confidence of the people.

Comrade Ben Asogwa, who spoke on behalf of the TUC as the chairman, said the visit was aimed at assuring Dr Mbah of their resolve to partner with his administration for the good of the state and for the welfare of workers.

Noting that the body is non-partisan, the chairman added that they were confident Enugu workers would not be disappointed in Mbah’s government because of his towering and outstanding records in both the public and private sectors.

“We will do everything within our reach to make your administration work, just like we had a robust relationship with Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s government,” the labour leader said.

He further appealed to the business mogul to look into the welfare of workers by improving on the legacy of the governor, urging him to give priority to the payment of pensions and gratuities of retirees.

On his part, the Acting Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Mathias Eneh, expressed delight over the fruitful meeting, adding that they would establish a progressive relationship with the incoming administration that would enhance development.

He lauded Mbah’s past track records as excellent, stressing that they knew he would not disappoint the state.

Reacting, Mbah lauded the union leaders for their support for the present administration, saying he would build on the existing robust relationship workers had been enjoying under Gov. Ugwuanyi.

Mbah stated that he had a strong passion for the massive improvement of the welfare of workers, especially civil servants.

According to him, his administration will declare war on poverty by attending to the needs of the people through job creation, training and upskilling of workers and adequate compensation.

“We are interested in the welfare of workers and they will be adequately compensated when we assume office.

“My government is going to enhance the skills of our workforce through training and work out the framework for their pensions and gratuities.

“In us, you have found a family because we all have parents, brothers, sisters and other family members in the service, so be rest assured of our support,” he said.

Mbah, however, called on the union, including workers across the state, to support PDP with their votes in order to ensure continuity and effective stewardship.
