The Political Battle in Rivers State: Governor Sacks Wike’s Former Aides As Chief Of Staff, CSO ...As Lawmakers Sign Impeachment Notice On Governor Fubara

The political relationship between the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and the Governor Sim Fubara seems not to be well with the current realities on ground.

Reports had it on Sunday night that the Rivers state house of assembly complex was set ablaze amidst reports of impeachment moves against the governor by lawmakers loyal to the former governor.

Amidst these reports, the governor has sacked his chief of staff and Chief security officer of the government house who were aides of the former governor, Nyesom Wike.

The crisis rocking the Rivers State government got messier on Monday as the state Assembly reportedly signed an impeachment notice on Governor Siminalaye Fubara.

In a session that was presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Martins Amaewhule and attended by a good number of members, the Leader of the House, Hon Edison Ehie and those loyal to the governor were suspended.

It was gathered that the explosion that occurred in the Assembly on Sunday night was alleged to have been a ploy to stop the lawmakers from gaining access to the Assembly on Monday.

As early as 7 a.m., some lawmakers made their way into the House and immediately commenced plenary where they all signed the impeachment notice on the governor.

Meanwhile, the entire Moscow Road leading to the Rivers State House of Assembly has been barricaded by armed policemen.
