The husband of Nigeria Nollywood star, Mercy Johnson's Okojie on Friday escaped assassination attempt in his home town, Uromi in Edo State.

According to Michael Ihaza ,Aide To Hon Prince Odi Okojie said the assassination attempt on the Member representing Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency and Edo Central Coordinator of the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, took place in his residence at Uromi, the administrative headquarter of Esan North East Local Government in the early hours of this morning, the 20th day of September 2024.

He said the attack was carried out by armed thugs with a Lexus GX 470 carrying a Rivers State vehicle registration number - PHC 253 FF, was unsuccessfully owing to the intervention of security personnel attached to the Lawmaker.

"The armed thugs who disguised as police officers along with two other, invaded the residence of Hon. Okojie, claimed to be on appointment and proceeded to the seating room. Following the intervention of the security personnel attached to the lawmaker, two of the armed thugs fled leaving behind the driver and another who are currently been interrogated by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Uromi.

"The suspects have so far made confessional statement stating that they were sent on the mission by one Mr. Isaac Imasuagbon and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Esan North East Local Government Area.

Reacting to the assassination attempt, Hon. Sam Oboh, the Assistant State Secretary of the APC, condemned the attack on the Leader of the Party in Agbazilo - Hon. Odianosen Okojie.

"We want to unequivocally state that, election should not be treated as war, nor should it be a matter of life and death", Those individuals who have been involved in these attack on Hon. Okojie, must be held accountable for their actions. We call for the arrest of all those who have been involved and be brought to justice", Hon. Sam Oboh added.

The Federal Parliamentarian - Hon. Prince Odi Okojie, has also called on the Inspector General of Police, the Edo State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies, to carry out their duties by arresting everyone connected to the assassination attempt on his life.
