Over 7, 000 YPP, APM supporters defect to APC in Anambra

No fewer than 7,000 supporters of Young Progressive Party (YPP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) on Thursday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra.

The defectors drawn also pledged their support to the governorship candidate of APC, Sen. Andy Uba ahead of Nov. 6 election.

Chief Basil Ejidike APC, State Chairman, who received the defectors in a brief ceremony in Awka charged them to join the party to ensure that Uba emerged next governor.

Ejidike said the gale of defection being recorded in the party in recent time was as a result of hard work by the party and the quality of candidate presented by APC.

He also attributed the infrastructural development in the area by President Muhammadu Buhari’s led federal government as another factor.

He said that the new entrants would be integrated into the campaign council and ensure that they joined hands with old members to deliver their candidate.

Sen. Uba, who also spoke, said he was happy to witness Anambra people make bold statement on their quest to join mainstream politics in the country.

Uba said if elected into office that he would address mirage of poor road infrastructure faced by the state.

He also said that he would tackle youth and women unemployment as well as deteriorating security situation in the state.

Chief Ifeanyi Ibezim, Deputy Director, Andy Uba Campaign Council said apart from those who joined APC, that they were expecting some political appointees of Gov. Willie Obiano to defect to APC.

Earlier, Mr Obiora Ochoudo, chairman, YPP Idemili North Local Government Area said they joined APC due to multiple reasons.

He said that any good political analyst in Anambra would know that the pendulum had already shifted to APC, saying it was for that they abandoned their former parties.
