Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle.

Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has pledged to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for the success of the 2023 general polls.

A statement by Malam Jamilu Birnin-magaji, the Press Secretary to the governor on Thursday in Gusau, said Matawalle made the promise while receiving the new INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof. Sa’id Ahmed.

Matawalle assured Ahmed of peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections in the state.

The governor said the government and people of Zamfara would support the commission in the discharge of its duties.

He said the state government was working to restore law and order ahead of the general polls.

He also assured that the 2023 general elections would be hitch-free as his administration was determined to secure lives and property in all parts of the state.

Matawalle promised to provide the commission with logistics and other support for a hitch-free, credible and peaceful election in 2023.

On the CVR exercise, he expressed satisfaction with the turnout of eligible persons for the exercise.

The governor commended the commission for the success of the CVR and the smooth execution of its other official responsibilities.

He, however, appealed to the people of the state yet to be registered, to obtain their voter’s cards ahead of the poll.

Earlier, the REC said his delegation was at the Government House to meet with the governor to explore more areas of support and cooperation to ensure hitch-free 2023 general elections.

Ahmed informed the governor that the CVR exercise was going on smoothly in the state.

He commended the state government for its support to the commission.
