The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia has appealed to the electorate to reject the ruling-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections.

The state Chairman of the party, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, made the appeal in a statement issued in Umuahia and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

He said that the PDP administration had failed to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people in terms of infrastructure, payment of workers’ salaries, and pensions.

On infrastructure, Ehiemere expressed worry that the roads in Aba, the commercial hub of the state, had gone from bad to worse.

He cited the dilapidation on Ohanku Road, Obohia Road, Port Harcourt Road, and Faulks Road, amongst other internal roads in Aba.

He said: “Just a little drop of rain last week exposed the shoddy job done on the roads by the PDP government.

“Going to Ariaria International Market, Aba, through any direction is another nightmare.

“These were roads rehabilitated a few months ago but have gone worse than they were because of shoddy work,” he said.

Ehiemere regretted that the oil-bearing communities in the state were also faced with deplorable road conditions.

According to him, the people of Ukwa have cried out over the continued neglect of their area.

“It is regrettable that Ukwa East and West Local Government Areas (LGAs) that lay the golden egg have no passable roads,” he further said.

He argued that the only state government’s presence was an abattoir, which was recently relocated to the area from Aba.

He said that it was appalling that representatives of the two LGAs in the state and federal legislatures had not risen to challenge the alleged neglect of their constituency.

The APGA chairman further berated the Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration for allegedly being insensitive to the plight of pensioners, who were being owed 37 months of pension arrears.

He also wondered why no local government in the state could embark on any capital projects, in spite of the monthly allocation they receive from the Federation Account.

He expressed disappointment that, in spite of the alleged failure of the administration, the governor’s aides continued to eulogize him in the media.

Ehiemere also expressed concern over the heaps of refuse that littered the major cities of the state and the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

He said that the ugly development portrayed the state as filthy.

He, therefore, implored the Abia electorate to utilize their votes in the 2023 polls to boot out PDP which, according to him, has brought so much underdevelopment to the state.

“Abia people should reject PDP and embrace APGA, which is committed to changing the face of the state,” Ehiemere said.
