The national chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP Alh. Shehu Musa Gabam has noted with displeasure the situation where state governors, along with their state legislatures have become a united body of willing collaborators with nearly no separation of power nor checks and balances as required under the constitution.

He stated this while speaking in an exclusive chat with timeline.ng Alh. Shehu Musa Gabam said in some states the governors, along with their state legislatures have become a united body of willing collaborators with nearly no separation of power nor checks and balances as required under the constitution.

Noting, that this development has effectively ensured that citizens held the short ends of the stick.

He noted with displeasure how collaboration has been the most significant clog in the wheel of the democratic process.

Gabam said state governors in Nigeria are very powerful and their powers come from the fact that they enjoy immunity, they control sizable resources, and are therefore able to control their entire state machinery, meaning the State House of Assembly and the Civil Service, and to a reasonable extent even the judiciary.
