Peter Nwaoboshi, Senator representing Delta north, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Senator Nwaoboshi has been having a running battle with the Delta State chapter of the PDP.
He was suspended by the party on Wednesday, a development that might have pushed the lawmaker to join the APC
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, welcomed the senator to the APC.
According to a statement issued by Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu, the president congratulated Nwaoboshi for decamping to APC.
The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Abuja welcomed Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi to the All Progressives Congress, after he left the Peoples Democratic Party, saying ‘you are welcome to the progressives family.”
“Sen. Nwaoboshi, representing Delta North District, Delta State, was presented to President Buhari and National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee at the State House by Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.

Last week, the Delta Senator was cleared of corruption charges by the federal high court in Lagos state.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Nwaoboshi and his two firms – Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd — in 2018 before Mohammed Idris, a judge, who was later elevated to the Court of Appeal.
They were then re-arraigned before Chukwujekwu Aneke on October 5, 2018.
In the two-count charge marked FHC/L/117C/18, the EFCC alleged that the defendants laundered N322 million between May and June 2014, in Lagos.
However, the court said the anti-graft agency failed to prove the elements of the offences for which it charged the senator.
