The Technical Director of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Martin Melandi, says the 2023 NVBF President’s Beach Volleyball Cup competition offers more opportunities for the Federation, the sport and their players.
The competition’s fourth edition is billed to hold from Monday to Feb. 19 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.
Melandi said the competition would not only herald the Federation’s programmes for the year but would also help put its players in shape ahead of the 2023 African Games in Ghana.
“The President’s Cup competition will feature two categories, which are the junior and senior categories, in order to discover more young players.
“Also, the leadership of the Federation is working round the clock to ensure the beach volleyball players get adequate preparations to excel at the forthcoming African Games, as well as other championships.
“No stone will be left unturned in ensuring the beach players get more playing time,” he said.
The NVBF technical director noted that Nigeria has dominated West Africa in the junior and senior categories and it was time to reclaim its dominance of the continent.
“In view of this, Nigeria will participate in a series of international championships such as the African Youth Games, African Games and African Beach Volleyball Championship and the Olympic qualifiers,” he said
Melandi added that the Nigeria Beach Volleyball Commission, under the auspices of NVBF, would provide an enabling environment and more playing time for the players to excel at future competitions.
