Akene wins VIO Director’s maiden table tennis competition

 

Mr Andrew Akene of the Department of Finance and Account, Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), has emerged winner of the just concluded maiden DRTS Director’s table tennis competition.

The tournament, which kicked-off on March 6, ended on March 17, with 16 participants drawn from all the departments of the service.

Akene clinched the trophy, having defeated his opponent, Mr Omole Olaitan, in a very entertaining game.

However, Mr Ola Wusu, came third in the overall competition.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of trophy to the winner, while certificates and medals were equally presented to all the participants.

In his remarks, the Director, DRTS, Dr Abdul-Lateef Bello, commended the winner and all the participants for a successful outing, adding that sporting activities had come to stay in the service.

Bello promised to give the necessary support to enable the personnel of the service to compete favourably in sporting activities with other agencies in the territory.

Also, the Head of Sports, DRTS, Mr Rimdan Nanjul, said that activities of motor vehicle administration and traffic management required physical fitness, mental alertness and a healthy life style to carry out their daily routines.

He added that it was based on this that the service organised the competition to improve the physical fitness and general wellness of all members of staff of service.
