Mighty Jets International Football Club of Jos on Sunday beat hosts Mailantarki Care FC of Abuja 1-0 in the ongoing 2022/2023 Nigeria National League (NNL).

The victory in the NNL Northern Conference Group A1 Match Day 5 fixture helped the visitors to cement their group leader.

Mighty Jets had been leading the group with nine points after four matches, while Mailantarki Care FC who came into the game with high expectations was fourth with five points.

The hosts had the chance to take the lead in the match played at the Area 3 pitch when Savior Chukwu felled Joshua Gaku in the 62nd minute, but they failed to utilize it.

Five minutes later, however, Mighty Jets’ forward Joseph Jatto scored with a header to a free-kick.

Speaking after the match, the coach of Mighty Jets, Aminu Musa, said he was excited that his team came out victorious.

“Our target is to top the table in the first stanza and we hope that we would hold on to that in the second stanza.

“Now we are going to correct our mistakes and the lapses we have noticed, ahead of our campaign in the second stanza,” he said.

On his part, the coach of Mailantarki Care FC, Umaru Zango, said his team regretted the loss because they needed the three points.

“If we have gotten these points, we would have been second on the group table,” he said.

Zango however said that his problem was his players.

“My problem is my players because they didn’t follow the instructions given. Assuming they followed my instructions, we would have won this match.

“In this match, we lost more than eight chances to score. Now we are ending the first stanza at the bottom of the group table,” he noted.

The coach assured them that they were still going to push harder in the second stanza.

“We are going to fortify our team and ensure we achieve our aim.

“Our second stanza match with Mighty Jets in Jos is in May, and we hope to pick the maximum points,” he said.
