Edo State Deputy Governor, Engr. Godwins Marvellous Omobayo, has restated his commitment to the development of sports, particularly the game of football for the growth of a healthy society.

The Deputy Governor gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by members of the Edo State Football Association, led by its Chairman, Newton Erhunmwunse, in his office.

The Deputy Governor noted that sports generally was a veritable tool for discovering and harnessing young talents to enable them to be self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to building a better society.

According to him, "football stands out and dominates other sports with a large followership", while asserting his readiness to partner with Edo Football Association and other stakeholders in taking the round leather game to greater heights.

Omobayo re-affirmed that he comes from a sports family as his parents were both physical/education professionals, emphasising that he was well grounded in the rudiments of football.

The Deputy Governor described himself as a developmental politician. He urged members of the football association to rally round Dr. Asue lghodalo and support his quest for the governorship seat for the consolidation of the gains recorded so far in the sports sector by the Godwin Obaseki-led administration.

He added that sports was a catalyst for building society, revolving round competition, entertainment, business and wellness.

Speaking earlier, Chairman, Edo Football Association, Newton Erhunmwunse, said members of the association were in the Deputy Governor's office to congratulate him on his elevation to the number two position.

He noted that the appointment of Engr. Godwins Marvellous Omobayo was well deserved and a symbol of the youth constituency.

He pledged the association's support for the present administration and the election of the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue lghodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie in the upcoming Edo governorship election.
