Chelsea postpone Man City’s title celebration with comeback victory

Chelsea came from behind to win Manchester City 2-1 as second-half strikes from Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso were enough to put City’s title coronation in the ice.

Raheem Sterling opened scoring for the hosts after he raced into the box and fired past Eduoard Mendy in the 44th minutes.

Sergio Aguero had the chance to double City’s lead late in the first half but missed a penalty in humiliating fashion after his panenka attempt was saved by Mendy.

In the 63rd minute, Ziyech pulled Chelsea level with his low shot into the bottom corner and the visitors also had three goals ruled out for offside – two for Werner and another for Hudson-Odoi

With the game in stoppage time, Chelsea got the winner as Alonso diverted a cross to complete the comeback.

Thomas Tuchel became the first Chelsea manager to win at this venue since December 2016 when Chelsea last won the EPL title under Antonio Conte.

The win took Chelsea up to third position on 64 points while City remains top on 80 points with three games left to play for both teams.

City will now have their eyes on Manchester United’s game against Aston Villa on Sunday as they can only be confirmed champions if their rivals lose.
