Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano, has approved the redeployment of all teachers on the government payroll from private to public schools.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Aliyu Yusuf, spokesperson of the state ministry of education. According to the statement, the state also suspended future postings of teachers on the government’s payroll at both state and local government levels to private, community and voluntary schools.
According to Yusuf, the ministry identified 6,995 teachers who were working in private, community and voluntary schools in the state.
He noted that the teachers were deployed from the state universal basic education board (SUBEB) and the Kano state secondary schools management board (KSSSMB).
Yusuf also noted that the move was part of measures taken by the government to address the unavailability of teachers in public primary, secondary and higher institutions in the state.
The development comes weeks after the state government announced, in June, that it was making arrangements to redeploy 5,000 civil servants to schools as part of efforts to boost the education sector in the state.
“Gov Abdullahi Ganduje also approved a systematic review of the existing arrangement on posting of teachers to such schools,” the statement reads.

“Eligible schools may apply by requesting for government’s intervention to strengthen their manpower in a realistic manner.
“Affected teachers should desist from reporting to such schools, as from Monday, July 5, 2021, or face disciplinary action.”
Yusuf further quoted Muhammad Sanusi-Kiru, the state commissioner for education, as directing the immediate posting of the teachers to public schools within one week from July 5, 2021.
