Centre for Ethics and Work Value Orientation (CESVO), in collaboration with the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN), has trained 100 members of the board on optimal performance in the workplace.

 

The two-day train-the-trainers ethical conduct and leadership retreat, had, as its theme: “Understanding the Fundamentals of Governance, Ethics, and Public Service Value Mentality.”

 

The program was aimed at enhancing the conduct of workers and the expected ethical leadership.

 

Speaking at the event, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the ODORBN board, Prof. Ebele Uzodike, said that the essence of the training was to propel the staff members to become more effective and better committed to their duties.

 

Uzodike also said that the outcome of the training would be inculcated into the work system and internalized into the various heads of units and departments’ meetings to boost staffers’ commitment and productivity.

 

“At the administrative level, we are also targeting making the work environment more exciting for staff members so that they will be able to put in their best to the organization’s aims and objectives,” she added.

 

The registrar called on all the participants to always be appreciative of what the government was doing and put in their best toward enhancing better working relationships among them.

 

Also speaking, the Executive Director of CESVO, Prince Salih Yakubu, in his lecture, advised the participants to desist from making excuses, such as school runs and others, saying that they were not good for the workplace efficiency.

 

“We are here to provide a two-day training for 100 staff members of ODORBN who were, a few weeks ago, identified among the first 20 highly-rated, most ethical, and responsible ones in terms of administration and management.

 

”We are here to build the capacity of workers and in fulfillment of our training promise on four significant topics, bordering on effective office communication, barriers to effective office communication, and office delivery without sentiments.

 

“We are also going to be engaging the participants on the kind of politics to engage in for career progression, their personal development, and its advantage to the overall development of their units and departments,” he said.
