The National Population Commission, NPC, has commenced the trial Post Enumeration Survey, PES, ahead of the April 2023 Population and Housing Census in Nigeria.
The survey will be conducted from the 18th to 29th of October 2022 in 127 enumeration areas in one Local Government Area in a State in each of the six geo-political zones across the country.
The Chairman of the Commission Mr Nasir Kwarra said the Post Enumeration Survey, PES, is a statistically representative survey that the National Population Commission will use to check the accuracy of the Trial Census conducted in July 2022.
He explained that the PES has been designed to redress possible errors in the census process adding that the results of the comparison are mainly used to measure coverage and content error in the context of the census.
He added that the PES exercise is in line with the United Nations Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses which gives credibility to the census results and engenders confidence and acceptability of the census by data users.
