As the curtain fell on the 8th edition of the National Youth Games held in Asaba on Thursday, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, harped on the importance of the nurture and development of young talents discovered at the games to enable them to transform into world class athletes.

The news of Esther Ogechi Nworgu, one of our athletes, winning a silver medal at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris is indeed heart-warming, historic and inspiring. Ms. Esther Ogechi Nworgu clinched the silver medal in Women's up to 41Kg power lifting and in doing so, set two new Paralympic records with her last two attempts at the coveted gold medal. She was eventually defeated by China's Zhe Cui who set a new PR record of 119kg.

As 8th NYG kicks off in Asaba 

As the 8th National Youth Games (NYG) kicked off in Asaba, Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has said that the state was renowned for effective sports development in Nigeria. 

Renowned Nigerian footballer, Victor Edward, popularly known as Victor Makalala and nicknamed (Don Makalala), has been inducted as an ambassador for the African Union's Agenda 2063. This prestigious recognition honours his outstanding contributions to football, philanthropy, and patriotism.

The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, will officially declare the National Youth Games open on Thursday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
